Awareness campaign launched: Leave no shadow of doubt

A new awareness campaign has been launched by our charity to reach families with a concern about their child’s growth, to encourage them to leave no shadow of doubt, trust your instincts and get in touch with the CGF.

It’s been a hugely exciting week at the CGF, as we launch our awareness campaign Leave no shadow of doubt. Launched during this year’s Children’s Growth Awareness Week, the awareness campaign is a key part of our work to raise awareness and understanding of growth concerns and conditions, to support families in the child growth community, and to improve detection, and support the earlier diagnosis of, undergrowth and overgrowth conditions. The campaign has been made possible thanks to funding from Sandoz along with the CGF’s collaboration with and support from a number of organisations.

Kicking off the awareness campaign we’ve had fantastic digital mall and roadside boards across England and Scotland displaying the campaign imagery and wording, as shown in these super photos – Sally and Laura from our CGF team spotted a campaign board at one of the various Birmingham locations it’s on display during Children’s Growth Awareness Week, and there was an evening spotting of the campaign in Tooting, London!

We’ve also had wonderful coverage in national print media, with coverage in The Sun (mum and child image) and in The Times (dad and image), helping us reach as many families as we possibly can to encourage them to trust their instincts about their child’s growth.
We have a range of images we’ll be sharing on social media to reach families who may need our charity’s support, including these images encouraging those who are concerned about their child’s growth to leave no shadow of doubt, trust your instincts and get in touch with the CGF to discuss next steps.

Laura’s blog: Your Height, My Height storybook

Your Height, My Height was written by Laura, a parent and member of the CGF team. One of Laura’s children has the growth condition Growth Hormone Deficiency.

I was always telling my son that his height should not define him, or hold him back from achieving his dreams.

I’ve heard him being called names, people think he is unable to do things other children of the same age can do, and people not talking to him in an age-appropriate way, all due to his height. As a parent it’s heart breaking but I’ve always told him that his height should not hold him back from anything.

I’ve always enjoyed reading with my boys, and for us, a big part is looking at the pictures, trying to match the words with the images. I really think the pictures in this storybook Your Height, My Height tell the story perfectly, that whatever your size you can achieve.

This storybook addresses that whether your small, tall or in-between, it shouldn’t hold you back – you can play with your friends, you can all achieve, you can all be nice to each other, and you can be friends together. I want this book to empower all children, whatever their height.

The storybook has beautiful illustrations. Illustrator Alice Peroni (part of Bear With Us) was wonderful to work with and her drawing are full of lovely detail that you can enjoy with your child. There is so much to discuss to each picture, not just the words.

At the back of the book there is space children to add their height and write how their height makes them feel.

I loved working on the storybook, and if it helps just one child, then it has all been worthwhile. Your Height, My Height is available through our online shop at childgrowthfoundation.org/yhmh.
