X Takeover for Children’s Growth Awareness Week 2023: Denise Gregory
We were in the care of a local hospital who were thorough and intent on finding answers as much as we were and this is where you will see postcode matters!

Isabella Gregory
Born at 37 weeks by elective caesarean
Weight 3lb 8oz pic.twitter.com/Rzl5M6Z8l6
Feeding issues were the first sign that something wasn’t right after Isabella was born. Along with her tiny size she could not accept any kind of oral feed & so had to use an NG tube to ensure she was getting some calories. pic.twitter.com/uS80Ru2faK

Mother's instinct tells me she had insufficient appetite and was lacking in muscle tone and energy to allow for oral feeding during this time. She spent 4 weeks in hospital (only for feeding) and we got her home.

Very little information was known or passed on to us so much of the research was through the amazing Child Growth Foundation.

The blog helped me process and deal with the isolation I was feeling having no close contacts to share stories with.

Weight was monitored every 2 weeks and feeds were every 2 hours. Her NG tube became a permanent fixture and helped her put a great amount of weight on. Perhaps too much? When comparing her to other RSS kids she looked much fuller. pic.twitter.com/yav9ayzj2k

Since then she has rocketed through the growth charts from -4sd to 16th centile in weight at 5 years old and -4sd to 4th centile in height. At 18 months old she was given a JPEG since the NG tube was still in regular use to avoid hypoglycaemia. pic.twitter.com/lVPl2wTwuo

“The Perfect Height” was created to provide some much-needed insight into growth conditions and the complicated pathways we walk down. You can purchase a copy at https://t.co/OLiEpWAzsx

The information was given directly from the experts and from those have “been there done that”. We were inspired. Raising funds for this fabulous organisation has been easy.

I recently had a big birthday and we raised £1000 just by being 40 years old!! It’s easy and anyone can do it. pic.twitter.com/9x1fmkgfoj
